Description

Rest Bay beach is a picturesque firm, golden sandy beach backed by low cliffs. The beach is overlooked by Locks Common, a recently designated local nature reserve and the Royal Porthcawl Golf Course. It faces South West and receives the full force of the atlantic swells, which produces excellent surf.

OUR AIM:

“Rest Bay Lifeguard Club’s primary aim is to provide the best possible Lifeguard Service to the users of Rest Bay. To enable us to fulfill this goal we provide training, qualifications and competition opportunities to all our members”.

Lifeguard Cover & Safety Advice

Lifeguards are employed by Bridgend County Borough Council between June - September at the following times: Mon - Fri 10.30am - 6pm, Sat & Sun 10am - 6pm. This service is complimented by volunteer lifeguards.

Lifeguards operate from the lifeguard station at the top of the beach and patrol in a four wheel drive vehicle and/or a quad bike. Lifeguards zone the beach for bathing (red over yellow flags) and surfing/craft (black and white quatered flags). All kite flyers must stay on the Sker point of the golf club buildings at all times when on land and water.

Safety info: On an incoming tide there is a strong current in the direction of town. From just after the third hour of the incoming

tide onwards you need to stay on the Rest Home/ Golf Cub side of the lifeguard station at all times or you risk being swept

around the the point. This is the rip that catches the unwary. Even on an outgoing tide there can be a strong current

so lifeguards advise the public to stay on the Rest Home/Golf Club side until the tide has backed off from

the point.

Litter - The beach is cleaned daily by the council throughout the bathing season. Both litter and dog bins are provided.

Dogs - Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1st May - 30th September.
